Exercise to take care of your heart

Physical activity is always beneficial for health in general and more if it is about taking care of the heart.

Exercising is good to reduce your risk of heart disease , but it is important to know how long you exercise is right. According to a quantitative review published in the journal ' Circulation ' of the American Heart Association, the premise is simple: the benefit increases as the amount of activity increases.

The consequences of leading a sedentary life are known. For example, a sedentary lifestyle causes obesity, overweight ,  cholesterol  or  diabetes to increase.

According to the study, people who engage in some moderate-intensity physical activity for 150 minutes a week are 14 percent less likely to have coronary heart disease compared to those who do not engage in any physical exercise. At higher levels of activity, the risk of coronary heart disease becomes lower and lower.

It has been proven that the more exercise is better for the heart, but even those who, due to time or health, cannot reach the recommendations set by the experts (perform 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate exercise a week) should not give up: "Even if you do a little exercise, this is already beneficial," says Dr. Jacob Sattelmair, from the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Data related to the diseases that affect the heart organ and the vital value of prevention.

1. Every year, 17.9 million people lose their lives due to cardiovascular diseases, making them the leading cause of death in the world.

2. The figure is estimated to rise to 23.6 million by 2030.

3. In Mexico more than 160 thousand people die from cardiovascular diseases annually; 88 thousand of them due to ischemic heart disease and 34 thousand due to cerebrovascular diseases.

4. A large part of these deaths could be avoided with three keys: Eat healthy, exercise and do not smoke.

5. Recommended physical activity:

- From 5 to 17 years of age: At least 60 minutes a day of moderate or intense physical activity.

- 18 and over: 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of intense physical activity a week.

6. It is estimated that each year 2.5 million deaths could be avoided if the consumption of salt worldwide were reduced to the recommended level (less than 5 grams per day).

Brief exercise, better for the heart of diabetics: study

Physical activity in people with diabetes is essential for their health, as it has been shown that they have a higher risk of suffering a cardiovascular event. Along those lines, research published in the American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Psychology found that short bouts of exercise can reduce the risk of heart disease in people with type 2 diabetes.

Specifically, the study suggests that physical exercise with frequent breaks, that is, in shorter sessions, improves the condition of the blood vessels and increases the protection of the heart, compared to prolonged exercise and short breaks.
