Informing after the weekly Union Cabinet meeting, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the Cabinet has approved the PEN nutrition scheme which provides mid-day meal to millions of children in 11.2 lakh government and government-aided schools across the country.

Anurag Thakur said the PM nutrition scheme would run for five years and the central government would spend Rs 1.31 lakh crore for the scheme.

As the Modi government has approved the PM Poshan Yojana, a major scheme for mid-day meal for children, free mid-day meal will be provided to children in 11.2 lakh government schools in the next five years. The central government will spend Rs 1.31 lakh crore on this.
